Why Mothers are Important

Mothers play a critical role in the family, which is a powerful force for social cohesion and integration. The mother-child relationship is vital for the healthy development of children. And mothers are not only caregivers; they are also breadwinners for their families.

The Bible consistently asks followers to honor and love their mothers. Examples of this can be seen in Exodus 20:12, “Honor your father and your mother,” and Leviticus 19:3, “Every one of you shall revere his mother and his father.”

Mothers in the Bible are depicted as honourable beings worthy of the love and respect of their children and the entire community. A woman, Mary, brought the saviour, Jesus Christ, into the world, and in this regard, every mother in the world is believed to be connected to Mother Mary.

Mothers are one of the first indications of the sovereignty of God in our lives. Mothers teach us to have confidence and belief in ourselves. Mothers knew from experience how important for people to believe in themselves in order for children to be whole, strong and grow with a healthy estimation of oneself.

Proverbs 31:26: "She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue." Proverbs 31:28–29: "Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: 'Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all. '"

Raising children in today’s world is quite a daunting task. We want to raise our children to be a certain way and to have certain values, while the world around them applies constant pressure in the opposite direction. Don’t let this discourage you though. There are ways to successfully raise children of integrity in this pressure cooker of a world. You’re not alone, and you can do it! And I realise that what works for one child doesn’t always work with other children.

Two Hours

Related imageA few days after Christmas, a mother was working in the kitchen listening to her young son playing with his new electric train in the living room. She heard the train stop and her son said, "All of you sons of bitches who want off, get the hell off now, cause this is the last stop! And all of you sons of bitches who are getting on, get your asses in the train, cause we're going down the tracks."

The mother went nuts and told her son, "We don't use that kind of language in this house. Now I want you to go to your room and you are to stay there for TWO HOURS. When you come out, you may play with your train, but I want you to use nice language."

Two hours later, the son comes out of the bedroom and resumes playing with his train. Soon the train stopped and the mother heard her son say, "All passengers who are disembarking from the train, please remember to take all of your belongings with you. We thank you for riding with us today and hope your trip was a pleasant one. We hope you will ride with us again soon." She hears the little boy continue, "For those of you just boarding, we ask you to stow all of your hand luggage under your seat. Remember, there is no smoking on the train. We hope you will have a pleasant and relaxing journey with us today."

As the mother began to smile, the child added, "For those of you who are pissed off about the TWO HOUR delay, please see the bitch in the kitchen."

A Celebration Of Mother...

For the hugs and kisses that eased our hurts...
For the sweet smiles and laughter that greet us everyday...
For being our #1 cheerleader...
Thank you, Mom.

You are the best woman we'll ever know.
And even though the presents we give
are no match for the gift of your boundless love,
we want to celebrate this special day with you.
For we love you and want to show you
our appreciation for all the things you have done for us.
Thanks for being a wonderful Mother.
